Chapel Hill Businesses Contribute to a Greener Way of Life

New Resident Solutions member Vacuum Cleaner Hospital of Chapel Hill recently hosted one of the homes on the Fourth Annual Green Home Tour April 25 and 26. The home, at 3411 Dover Road in Durham’s Hope Valley neighborhood, is a finalist for the 2009 National Association of Homebuilder’s “Green Building Remodel of the Year” category. Central Vacuum Experts, a division of Vacuum Cleaner Hospital, earned green points by installing an MD Silentmaster in the home. This unit exhausts the interior air either outside or into a utility room after it has traveled through several cleansing filters. More than 100 people toured this unique remodeled home each day of the tour, which continues May 2 and 3.

Just down the road, University Mall’s Scrapel Hill Art Contest has captured the Chapel Hill community. Fifteen local artists have created amazing works of art with recycled and non-recyclable materials that are on display at University Mall now, so be sure to stop by and check it out.

In conjunction with Scrapel Hill Art, the Art Therapy Association of North Carolina is hosting an Art Therapy Quilting Bee in the University Mall Special Events Centre on May 3 from 2 to 4 p.m. This event is free and open to the public.

We’ll report on more green ambition as our wonderful local businesses continue to explore additional ways they can run a greener operation.
